Phone Minimalism

Every application you install is one more gate that your enemy can run through. I know GrapheneOS has very good security but if you know any thing about cyber security, you know that OS alone is not a guarantee.

We need minimalism. On my phone I have a total of 16 apps. I disabled a lot of things I didn’t like within the system. Here is a list of what i have on my phone

         • Droid-ify
         • GrapheneOS’s App store
         • Signal Private Messenger
         • SimpleX Chat
         • Vanadium
         • Aegis
         • KeePassDX
         • NextDNS Manager
         • Settings
         • Notesnook
         • Camera
         • Gallery
         • Contacts
         • Phone
         • Files
         • Messages

Further Details

Minimalism is a great things because it gives hackers less shit to exploit. Think about apps like closed doors. Some of them are bank vaults while others are a old broken wood door. Every door you have goes to your bank vault and so it doesn’t matter if 16 of my doors are bank vaults if the last one is old broken wood door that just need one kick. If you didn’t use an app for a month. Basically the rule would be delete it! In the name of minimalism, privacy and security.

Gaming On Phones

Also I am very much against using the phone for a gaming device it will ruin your minimalism. Gaming on your phone will ruin your life because 95% of all games are made to manipulate you with casino grade manipulation. Games on your phone also clutter up your device. You walk into the casino and only realize too late that the doors are now locked and you are addicted. This is because Gaming on phones is a rotten carrot that you’re running after.

Social Media

Another rotten carrot is social media. Social media and minimalism doesn’t go hand in hand. That’s because you will have 10 apps for just socials. Also almost all social media content is brainrot. being on social media these days is like playing Russian roulette with your mental health and on top of this you are wasting time. Some people even get into bad useless discussions. Also political bullshit. If you ask me, my political views these days, I will tell you that I am nowhere because no one party has great ideas. A rotten carrot if you ask me.

Don’t Install hundreds of apps.
Don’t use social media
Don’t game on your phone

Computer Minimalism

I switched from ProtonMail to TutaMail, as I was switching over I had both ProtonMail and TutaMail installed at the same time. This was just to make the process of changing more convenient. Now eventually I deleted ProtonMail, I do have the Tuta app on my Mac.

With that said I don’t have many things installed, I feel dirty if I have too much apps laying around. Even just looking at the Apple applications is an eyesore so I made a folder with shortcuts of all my apps.

What does “all my apps” consist of? Well a very modest and minimal amount.

  1. Mullvad VPN. (VPN)
  2. LittleSnitch (Firewall)
  3. MicroSnitch (Microphone & Camera Abuse Detection)
  4. Signal (Messenger)
  5. TutaMail (Email)
  6. KeePassXC (Password Manager)
  7. Brave Browser (Browser)
  8. Waterfox (Browser)
  9. AlDente (Battery Optimization & Control)

That’s it, I don’t think you’d need more, now I am at a great level of minimalism most people would be using all Apple apps and more and gladly give away tons of data about what they do… Not me! I assure you I can’t even leave BalenaEtcher alone, when its job is done then its gone.

The point is, login to a clean browser window when you need to login. Get the SimpleLogin Addon for your browser for email forwarding and then get uBlock and you will be fine when it comes to apps. Do not over do apps, less is more when it comes to apps.

Every app is a new door you install in your wall and some of these doors are made of paper, be careful.
